Dear Yuletide Author
Hi, I’m great_whatsit at AO3! First and foremost: THANK YOU! I am so lucky to be getting a gift from you, and I’m immensely grateful for the time and energy you're putting into this. Taking the time to do something like this is a huge deal.
I dunno man, I just really, really, really love Frédérick — his arc in the movie is incredible: he's so complex and self-aware, in ways that I'd argue none of the other leads are. Really, I would love anything at all centered on him, with however many of the others who are relevant coming by (or not, that's 100% cool too). What was he like before we met him? Talk to me for hours about his relationship with Lacenaire, or his feelings about Baptiste, or whether or not he likes Necco fucking Wafers. Seriously: anything about Frédérick will make me deliriously happy.
(Ok also, I just started thinking about him and Baptiste as cowboys in the Old West? With Garance running the local saloon? If you dig on AUs, I mean, that would be amazing!)
Fandom 2: FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE
I always say that westerns are, first and foremost, about men and their feelings. In this case, those feeling seem to consist of affection, respect, and frankly embarrassing horniness. Write anything about them — canon or not, just pair them up — and I'll be so happy! I don't even care whether or not they're fucking, their chemistry is so good they deserve a dozen spin-offs, all on their own. I particularly love how well Mortimer INSTANTLY knows the Stranger, and how he gives him spaces to brag and pretend he's infallible anyway. That kind of almost indulgent affection super floats my boat, as does how ferociously the two of the flirt (men, feelings, and cowboy hats).
Fandom 3: THE STING
As I mentioned in my intro, I have a real weakness for sorta (mostly) shitty dudes who know they suck a lot and are really trying; for me, Henry Gondorff is one of those sad, amazing dudes. He's the one I really care about here, but take whatever angle you want — his life before the movie? His life afterward, or how he copes in a world in which soulmates are a thing, and that asshole Johnny Hooker is his? (Or, jesus, what if Lonnegan is? BRB WRITING AN AU.)
Some of the many questions I'd love to see tackled: How did he get this way? What was he like when he first got into the game? What was his relationship with Luther like, before? Where do he and Johnny go after and why is he in love with that guy's punk ass?
In terms of narrative I’m pretty easy to please, and any rating and/or combination of gender identities and bodies is cool with me. That said, I do have a few DNWs, mainly: extreme or explicit violence, non-con, horror, and A/B/O.
Things I love (but in no way require) in fic: found family, sex that is urgent, or awkward, or familiar and full of laughter (or all of the above), complicated/sorta fucked up power dynamics, quiet devotion, humor, bittersweet endings, day in the life snapshots, tragically stoic characters who only one other person understands, damaged people who are trying, whether it's just to do as little harm as possible, or to heal themselves, even a little (ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜).
All of that said: everything that follows is mere suggestion, nothing more. I am already over the moon that anyone else shares any of these interests, and is willing to write something about one of them for me. Anything you come up with will be incredible.
